Small Thing, Great Impact

This is a real incident which clearly shows an impact of small thing.

Well the incident I’am about to relate here isn’t as historically dramatic as the Apollo Mission, but it has always struck me as how the Achilles heel of any system is not in its most complicated components but in it simplest ones.
October 2nd 1996.

Soon after taking off from Lima, Peru pilots of Aeroperu Flight 603 noticed something strange. Their flight instruments were not working properly. The aircraft in question was this.

A Boeing 757 which was almost 4 years old. It was a dark, stormy  night over the Pacific Ocean when the airplane’s instruments began to tell the pilots that first, they were going too slow, and then too fast. In addition to this, their altimeters (instruments telling them how high they were off the ground) failed, leading the crew to disregard their readings. The pilots immediately declared an emergency and turned back to Lima. Out of the airport another aircraft took off to meet the stricken 757 and guide it in.
Flying over water at night in stormy weather is extremely hazardous. With no external references such as landmarks and a visible horizon a pilot has no way of knowing whether his airplane is climbing or descending. The artificial horizon on all aircraft is meant to be used in such situations in order to maintain steady and level flight

Unfortunately, with a slew of instrument errors in the cockpit the pilots had no choice but to disregard its information as well. Unknown to them, the aircraft was slowly sinking into the sea.

The first warning that the pilots had of their true altitude was when the left wing of the 757 struck the ocean.

They tried mightily to regain control, but failed. Aeroperu 603 crashed off the Peruvian coast with 70 souls on board. 9 bodies were found floating. The rest sank with the airliner.

After the wreckage was recovered the cause of the crash was not very difficult to pin down. Duct tape had been left over the openings on the airplane which sampled the airflow outside and provided inputs for the instruments in the cockpit. The duct tape was slapped on when routine maintenance was being performed. Although it was supposed to have been removed before flight, it was never taken off. While it did not render all the instruments useless, it left enough of them unusable to make the pilots distrust the rest.

And there you have it. A strip of tape approximately 100 square centimeters in area brought down a modern jet airliner  with the loss of 70 lives. Small thing, big impact wouldn’t you say?

Delhi – The Real Made of Great

I have lived in all major cities if india, Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi bla bla, and needless to say and undoubtedly, Delhi is the best place to be! It obviously beats Mumbai in every single odds. Delhi is a city which drives you crazy when you look at its age old architecture, feel its zealous past and peep into its mystical history. From ancient architectures to the modern marvels this city offers everything you crave for. The rulers which have ruled India from this city designed it in their own style.

With all of the politics and loads of history primarily located here, it will messmerize you like anything. This city drives in you the real spirit India. No other city offers you the hullabaloo of news makers, the patriotic flavor of armed forces, the charm of ancient world, the charisma of modernity and a sense of power. The city in which flows the fuel of energy and enthusiasm of India. Since this city is driven by power it always remain a focal point of change which helped in churning our democracy for better results.

Delhi has its own Wembley Stadium (P.S. Ramleela Maidan) which have witnessed hell lot of activities be it from Baba Ramdev, Anna or Kejriwal or whatsoever.

The capital has endless novelty and it is because of its design of the city and the design of its monuments. From Qutub Minar to Humayun’s Tomb to Akshardham Temple, we have the best in architecture too. It has five prominent areas to it East, West, North, South and Central Delhi. South Delhi is a charmer when it comes to its manicured lanes. There are gorgeous parks in the middle of the city. If you have not been to India Gate, Raj Ghat yet, you should not miss it next time when you are in Delhi. Not just it, go to Pragati Maidan for some of the best fairs and events.

No doubt, Delhi has bagged a negative image lately due to poor politics but the city is not be blamed for that, it is the administrative failures and political tussles that have led to its fate of being called unsafe. In the last few years, I have traveled to quite a number of places in India and in comparison to most of them, I would say Delhi is the best in many ways.

What’s Drives me to this City: The first thing that drives me is its exemplary history and cultural heritage:

Delhi has all you want, Pubs, nightlife, luxury cars and chill..

Delhi is a city which I feel is a magic blend of history as well as modern times.it holds vivid testimonies for every period, Imprinted with their identity. The various monuments and architecture really make me mad about it. Mystery, Magic and Mayhem…are the three words that Define Delhi.

#Real Togetherness

You plan a roadtrip to a desolated location, all alone and take all your cool tech gadgets along with you. The first encounter with ice, high definition videos, check-ins, tags, nothing should be missed, sharing with everyone else.

It’s addictive. Isn’t it? Checking facebook every hour, snooping into what’s happening in other people’s life, updating whatsapp profile pictures every third day, indulging in chats which do not actually serve any purpose for your soul, all of this gets overwhelming sometimes.

The internet of things has really caught on and true to its name, its pretty much everywhere. Our country, society , streets and even our homes are completely digitized and probably caused a pardigm shift in all our relationships.

In today’s digital world people spend more than half of their time on mobile, laptops and TVs. Even after office people love to spend time on social media rather than meeting their friends and relatives in person. Google hangouts, Whatsapp and Facebook groups are where families and friends are together.

A Skype chat is preferred to a coffee meet.
Playing games on Xbox is preferred to the actual ones.
Facebook and Whatsapp are where you will get the maximum wishes on any occasion.

The internet of things has really caught on and true to its name, its pretty much everywhere. Our country, society , streets and even our homes are completely digitized and probably caused a pardigm shift in all our relationships.

Schools are eliminating the need to write everything manually and converting all materials to a power point slide which is then emailed to the students.School Homework is no longer about joint studies, manual field research, interviews and primary research but rather “Googling” and simply doing a copy/paste

Even at offices, employees no longer talk it out during a coffee break or small informal meetings but rather send long emails or even longer messages in a communicator to discuss the same.

The beautiful art of having a conversation , building a strong connect face to face is slowly evading and being replaced by missed calls, Whatsapp messages and Facebook likes. Even at popular concerts and events, people are more focused in capturing the images through their smartphones than actually reveling in the beauty of the surrounding.

I remember the days when we headed for our adventures, leaving everything behind. No one could reach us, emails couldn’t bother us – just us and the nature. it was then we always realized the value togetherness. It is something to be felt rather than being told.

Every now and then God gives you a clue, a clue to make you think, to think to change, to change for the ones we love, to taste the joy of togetherness again.

Make Sure to Improve 1% everyday!

Habits don’t change in a day. But 1% a day makes every habit work. Every.

The reason is: they work if you do a little each day. If you relax and give yourself permission to only improve a little each day, then a good habit works.

It’s permission to improve. It’s also permission to fail. Because when you first start something, you’re on day one.

If you want to succeed at anything, you have to give yourself permission to fail twice as much as you thought you would.

If you insist, I need to change RIGHT NOW, then it won’t work. You’ll only get worse.

If you insist the habit changes tomorrow, then the habit will certainly fail.

Coolio, the rapper, wrote lyrics every day for 17 years before having a hit.

Commander Hadfield, the astronaut, improved his skills every day for 20 years before getting into space.

Kurt Vonnegut wrote every day for 25 years before he had a major bestseller.
Even Mozart, despite being a prodigy, wrote music for 10 years every day before becoming a true master.

Improve a little each day. It compounds. When 1% compounds every day, it doubles every 72 days, not every 100 days. Compounding tiny excellence is what creates big excellence.

You can’t be a master in one day. You have to improve a little every day.
Picasso created 2 works of art a day. That’s 50,000 in a lifetime. It adds up.
“But it’s too late for me!”.

No, it’s not. Compounding creates fast results.

If I read 5 pages a day from non-fiction books, then in a year I will have read 1830 pages of knowledge. And each page I read will build upon the pages I’ve read before.

And it’s 1830 pages 99% of people won’t read. Most people don’t pick up a book after age 20.

If I write 1000 words a day, then in one day that’s nothing. In one year that’s the equivalent of 6-8 novels.

Also you can also decrease 1% a day. We can say, “aww, it’s only one day. Don’t pressure me!”

Such an easy choice. It seems trivial. 1% up or 1% down. But it sneaks up. And then we’re old and lonely.

Every day matters.

When I was losing all of my money, and hanging around with the wrong people. And taking the wrong drugs and dating the wrong people, It’s because I was saying, “it’s just 1 day”. Or, “I don’t need to improve every day, it adds up to nothing”.

Because I couldn’t see how it was adding up at first. And that became my trademarked technique for losing everything, For losing my mind. For being lonely.

It was the one thing that worked: 1% decrease a day cost me everything. I had to get back to 1% up a day.

The 1% Rule can be applied to everything. If I spend 1 less minute feeling regret and use that to feel gratitude, how much better for my stress levels will that be2 in one year’s time.

Stress is 100% reverse correlated with longer healthier happier life. With more money. With more love. With more creativity.

Every habit can be built using this technique.

Thoughts are in the head. Thinking, “this seems like a good habit” is a start. Reading about it is a second start. But…

Actions are outside of the head or body. Take 1% action per day.

More than that and you’ll give-up (“diets don’t work!”). Less than that and it might take too long (“diets don’t work!”).

It doesn’t happen in one day. There are no goals. There’s only practice.

Practice never makes perfect. Practice makes happy. Practice makes habits.
I started writing 23 years ago. Every day I read a little. Every day I wrote. I wanted to get better.

I was very bad at the beginning.

I just looked at some fiction I wrote 23 years ago. WOW! Very bad.

Every day I wake up and think, how can I be a little better? Just a tiny bit.

Because I know it will make me feel good today to practice. And I know it will add up.

Economics – Must Read Fun Facts!

When I started a business, by definition, I knew nothing about business.

I had just started! I was the worst.

Here’s what I knew. This was the 90s. I knew how to make a website. Nobody else knew.

So American Express came to me and said, “Can you build a website?”

That started my business. A client came to me and said, “Can you build a website?”

I’m going to admit to you what I did not know: I did not know the business world values products (scalable) more than services (unscalable).

The reason I did not know this is because services are profitable (You can always fire people when business is slow)

Here’s also what I did not know: how to hire people and fire people. Or how to manage people. I didn’t know anything.

Business is like “micro-economics”. Supply and demand, etc.

Macro-economics is like: what happens if there’s a draught and we grow less corn. What happens?

So here’s what I don’t know now:

I don’t know how to really read a “P&L” sheet. Just tell me your revenues and profits and let me ask some questions and I can figure out what’s working and what’s not.

And here’s also what I don’t know now: what happens if there is a draught and there’s no corn. Because it seems like that has nothing to do with real prices.

The price of oil has nothing to do with the supply and demand for oil right now, for instance.

So anyone who writes a book on “Macro-economics” is lying to you. Because it’s a made up science.

And Micro-economics they are lying to you also. Because what you need to know there is how to sell, how to come up with an idea, how to manage, how to build product, and how to be a leader.

You can’t learn that from a teacher. You can learn a tiny bit from books.

What do you do if economics is BS and you are answering a question about “What are the 10 best Economics books?”

I don’t want to lie to you. I’m going to give you the 10 best books that inspired me to make more money.

That’s, pure and simple, what I hear when I hear the world “economics”.

These books won’t make you more money. But they will inspire you and point you in the right directions for making money.

I’m not going to give you books I read in college. Those are all BS books.

For me, if I am honest, reading these books has caused me to have more money in my bank account.

A) Zero to One by Peter Thiel. Changed my mind about the nature of competition, monopolies and the role of employees. Also check out my podcast with him.

B) Abundance by Peter Diamandis. If someone ever “dooms and glooms” you, this is the book to read. The rest of the people are trying to scare you.

C) The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene. Not because he teaches you how to be “powerful”. That word means nothing. It’s just…he’s smart. Read him.

D) Mindset by Carol Dweck.  Are you fixed, or growth. When and why?

E) The End of Jobs by Taylor Pearson. A book about our current world situation is just a photograph. One moment from now it will change. One moment ago it was different.

This book by Taylor is about this moment. And it’s important to read. (Or check out my podcast with him)

F) Tomorrowland by Steven Kotler

Might as well know what trends are happening and the state of where they are now.

G) Are You Fully Charged? This book will make you a better person, leader, businessman. At least…it did for me. Plus I have a man-crush on Tom Rath.

H) Sapiens by Blah Blah Blah. I hate always looking up his name. My wife and I always just call him, “Israeli guy”.

This book is the most important economics book ever. If there were such a thing as economics. Who cares. Read it. The 80,000 year overview of where we’ve been and where we are going.

At the very least you will be smart at cocktail parties after you read this book.

I like reading books where I feel like my IQ is going up while I am reading it.

I) The Rational Optimist. Again an anti-doom and gloom book by the astonishing Matt Ridley. This is another one of those books where your IQ is higher after you read it.

J) History of the World is Six Glasses. My kid had to read this for school. And then I read it.

It’s great to take a well-trodden topic (history) and re-formulate it in terms of what we drank and how the answer to that question is totally what changed history.

Practicing having a mindset like that, where you turn the common into the fantastic, is what makes one a good economist.

Again, I can list a lot more. I don’t want to limit myself to ten. I have  book club where I list many more but you don’t need it.

[Oh, I’m editing this post. One more CRITICAL ONE: “Antifragile” by Nassim Taleb. But with a caveat. As you read it, try to determine how it personally can change your life as opposed to reading it as an economics book.]

Do this:
– start with these ten.
– don’t listen to anyone who uses the word “economics” (after this post of course)
– make a lot of money using what you learned in these ten books.

Love me!

Product Review – #SoftestForSkin

A diaper would never feature on your ‘Man’s best inventions’ list before you become a parent. But the moment your baby comes wailing out, asking to be tended to without much consideration for day or night, sleep-lagged eyes or breaking back, you will scribble it as Item no. 1 in the life-saving category. Those with kids know I am not kidding. Those on their way to becoming parents will soon know what I mean.

The word ‘diaper’ is barely being used any more. The word ‘pampers’ seems to have completely replaced it. That’s because Pampers has beaten every other brand of baby pants out there, in every category. They keep the baby dry. They are so soft and comfortable that babies can’t even notice that they are wearing anything at all. A happy Baby means happy parents. No wonder Pampers is the #1 worldwide diaper brand. Everyday Pampers serves 25 million babies in over a 100 countries.

So let’s observe what are the things that makes Pampers Premium Care Pants so great:
Comfortable Materials: The biggest flaw in most diapers is that the material causes irritation. This can be attributed to the poor material they are made of. I don’t know what Pampers is made of. But just by feeling it I can tell you that it must be absolutely comfortable for a Baby. It has a all round softness.
Breathable: The Pampers Premium Care Pants comes with micro pores which allow the skin to breath. That’s probably why babies love them.

Below are the Advantages of using Pampers Pants :-

All-Around Fit: One size fits all babies. The waistband and the leg cuffs are extremely stretchy. Babies learn by moving around and exploring new things. If the baby’s movements are restricted, so are his/her learning. That’s why its so important that babies can move freely around the house.
Dryness up to 12 Hours: Ultra dry core quickly absorbs and locks away liquids.

Baby Lotion: Yes, that’s right. The Pampers Premium Care Pants comes with baby lotion which helps protect your baby’s delicate skin. Now this a a completely additional feature. Hat’s off to Pampers for thinking of this. Baby lotion and diapers have always been used separately. But the idea of merging them and making them one is simply brilliant.

1. Wetness Indicator: It comes with a witness indicator that turns blue so that parents can know when their baby wets his/her diaper. For new moms/dads this is a must-have feature. Pampers knows that new moms/dads are not born experts. Come on, even moms and dads need help. Scratch that. Moms and Dads are the ones who need help the Most.

2. It is even more important that the diapers remain dry on the inside. Quite like a goodly apple rotten at the core is a diaper dry on the outside but keeping your baby’s bottom wet on the inside. And then, diaper rash, apart from inexplicable crankiness and needless discomfort in the baby. Imagine walking around dressed in your designer clothes but with a wet pair of shorts inside? And then being asked to sleep soundly in them? Do you think you will wake up feeling happy and ready to seize the world?

3. The diaper should feel like a breeze to the baby, and not a tiny prison cell tightening its grip on his tender thighs and waist just to keep itself anti-leak. Once I saw the red pressure lines that some diapers could form on my baby’s body, I made doubly sure that I switched to a brand which did not clutch the baby too tight. Picking quality over discounts mattered here.

4. Size matters. Make sure you are using a diaper which supports the weight that it promises. Or else, it’ll be leaks and skin tweaks all the way. It could also mean the diaper’s glue giving way in the most unexpected of times, and it slipping out of place when the active baby is busy toddling all over your linen or bouncing in his daddy’s lap.

5. Not the most important feature, but yes, cute and colourful doodles on the outside of the diaper do no harm. If anything, they can be used as a distraction to make the baby comply while being put in a diaper or befriend them if fussy about the whole thing.

So, in conclusion, Pampers have gone several steps beyond with the Pampers Premium Care Pants. Thanks to Pampers Premium Care Pants my baby is always happy and always smiling. I recommend it to all my fellow new parents.

Exclusive Product Review – JW Marriot Mumbai

Recently I have been invited on the launching event of pamper premium care products which was held on JW Marriott Mumbai sahar. My first reaction was like OMG parenting event and me? But when I thought came on my mind why not?

The good news for all moms and dads as well is that I was one of the luckiest few parents to witness the unveiling of the latest Pampers premium brand #SoftestForBabySkin diaper pants on Sunday. Our tables were loaded with the samples of ‘New Pampers Premium Care pants’ , mysterious vertical boxes having 3 slits , remotes, trays , tissue-papers , water-bottles , candies , flower arrangements etc.

The Pampers Panel of experts engaged in a never seen before product demonstration clearly showcasing Pampers Premium Care Pants as the softest diaper amongst all, through touch and feel of softness. Scientist & R&D expert Dr. WeiSing Long highlighted the unique features of Premium Care Pants. Premium Care Pants come with a 5 Star skin protection promise that provides the baby with all-around softness, upto 12 hours dryness, breathable materials, all-around fit, baby lotion and a wetness indicator that directs mothers to change the diaper timely.

Through activities they demonstrated us that how the new pampers premium care pants are the best and softest. There was an activity in which there were three diapers in a box divided into three sections and we were asked to feel the three diapers and vote for the softest diaper and, the winner was the New Pampers Premium Care Pants. They are the softest diapers ever and I can say this by my own experience.

The pretty panelists unveiled the ‘New Pampers Premium Care Pants’ , the softest diapers , as soft as mom’s touch. New Pampers have an all-around soft waistband and great dryness that absorbs wetness and locks it away.
The event ended on a high note where we were allowed to click pictures with Tara Sharma & Mandira Bedi. We thought it was over, when at the exit we were surprised to get a goody bag filled with Pampers Premium Care Pants and other personal hygiene products.

Do Women Want to Be Treated Like Men or Do Women Want to be Treated Like Equals?

Whenever I make a statement or ask a question about anything regarding gender, the response I get is deafening. To be sure, this is a very sensitive issue. However, men do need to know and understand what women want, exactly, and if women want equality, that’s great, but if women want to be treated like men, that’s another thing all together. The truth is, men don’t treat each other all that well.
I read an interesting article the other day about a lesbian couple who decided to go straight. How? One of them got a sex change.
Fascinating enough as it is, the part of the article that peaked my interest was that the woman who changed her gender didn’t much like the world of men. She liked being a man, but she no longer liked the way the world treated her. She said men don’t compliment each other, they don’t encourage each other, and when they shake hands, they grab each other firmly and look each other in the eye without smiling. It’s like they don’t know how to get along, she said. (I have long believed that women are, socially, higher developed or designed than men in some ways. They seem to understand the true language of humanity, that somehow validating a person’s identity is paramount.)

I couldn’t help but laugh as I read the article. I actually like the way men interact. As a man, I find it more direct and to the point. I find it annoying to always have to think about how people feel about things. But that’s not what I’m getting at.
What I’m getting at is a question the article posited without meaning to. That is:
Do women want to be treated like men or do women want to be treated equally? (And make no mistake, the question is important.)
If we’re saying women should be paid the same as men, I’m in. If we’re saying women should be given the same opportunities, of course, I’m in. But if we are saying women should be treated like men, then unfortunately, I’m out. And I wonder if most women would be out, too.
The idea that there’s some secret men’s club where we are all for each other and waging a war on women is simply false. As a rule, men are not nice or kind to each other. We do have our friends and we play our favorites, but for the most part, men are competitive and intense and are often marking our territory. I don’t know a single man who isn’t more kind to women than they are to men. Men are tough with each other and much more likely to fight with each other than they are to fight with a woman.
I confess I’ve long believed the soul is gender neutral. What I mean is, our bodies and minds, our biology and biochemistry may be gender inclined (or mixed, and common sense have proven) but our souls are of the same, non-gendered orientation. And for this reason, gender issues have never interested me any more than issues relating to the physical body. Now I know some will say our bodies and souls are connected, and of course this is true, but I think of our souls as eternal while our bodies replaceable. And I wouldn’t be surprised if there were no gender in heaven.
Nevertheless, the issue is still important because we are talking about a framework within which to dignify or indignify a fellow human being, which has enormous and eternal consequences for the soul.
Even as I type this, I feel like I’m burying mines in a field I’ll be expected to walk back across.
My question is, then, for the women:
Do you want to be treated like men in every area of your life? And if not, is it confusing for you to want to be treated more kindly and tenderly in a social area, but more straight-forwardly in the sense of economic and cultural equality?
Let me be more pointed: As women, do you want for men to say you’re beautiful? Because if we treat you like men, we will never say you’re beautiful. We don’t really care. And we won’t make you feel small or special or precious, either. We won’t protect you because, quite frankly, you need to protect yourself or you’re a wimp. Do you really want us to treat you like men?
And then there’s the secondary questions. There’s the questions about the fact women are paid much less than men. And that’s ridiculous. It’s a shame and a crime and a travesty. But let’s not pretend women want to be treated like men because they don’t. What they seem to want is equality. And those terms need to be parsed and understood. And who will lead this parsing and understanding? Women. State clearly what you want. We need to know because the current communication is, to say the least, confusing.
So, the questions for the women reading this article are:
1. Do you want to be treated as an equal?
2. Do you want to be treated differently than you would as a man?
3. What is the difference between being treated as an equal and as a man?
Of course, it should be noted all people are different and that we are making generalizations about gender. That said, how do we even talk about this issue without making generalizations? The conversation must start somewhere.
Grace is appreciated.

The song is so fast that nobody can stop dancing after hearing this great music. We all went crazy making our dubsmash video lots of time. Its so much fun dancing on this song with refreshing theme.I would say that we all dance on this tune in morning then this song can brighten our day just like colgate .
